HC: Defamation suits over FIRs bid to stifle reporters

Quashing criminal proceedings over a news report on the registration of an FIR (first information report), the Nagpur bench of the Bombay HC held that "fair reporting of the information brought in public domain" - in the form of a news item containing a statement of facts - "may not attract action for defamation".
