India reports 743 new Covid cases, seven deaths

India reports 743 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total to 3,997 active cases. Seven fatalities occurred in the past day, with Kerala reporting three deaths, Karnataka two, and Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu one each. The cumulative tally of Covid-19 cases in India reaches 4,50,12,484, with a total death toll of 5,33,358. India has recorded 145 instances of the Covid-19 subvariant JN.1, a derivative of the Omicron variant BA.2.86, which is now classified as a variant of interest by the World Health Organization.
